Not too long ago I was lucky enough to receive a few samples from the American skin care company Rodan+Fields Dermatologists.
A rep, Melissa, had gotten in touch with me and had amazing things to say about their products. When asked for a review, of course I said yes!
To be honest, I’m usually pretty skeptical when someone spouts off so much awesomeness about a product. It’s wrong, but a dark part of me almost wishes the product were bad just to prove them wrong. Nothing is that great, right?
While I’m sure you’re wondering what’s wrong with me, we’re talking skin care, so lets get back to the good stuff!
Melissa sent me a few products; Enhancements Micro-Dermabrasion Paste and Redefine Overnight Restorative Cream. Since I love a good scrub, let’s talk about the paste first!
The tub of microdermabrasion paste is an oil-free formula that you can use on your face or body. It’s a gentle, gritty exfoliator that you rub over your skin for 30-60 seconds.
If you’re looking for a fruity or floral scented product, you won’t find it here.
The only way I can describe the smell of this paste is to say it was like the scent of fresh plaster with a hint of citrus. Doesn’t sound very enticing, but I found it oddly satisfying. It’s not too strong so you don’t have to worry about it lingering.
What I Dig
As far as its effectiveness, I quite liked it. I used the paste on my face, neck and upper arms every third day for nearly 5 weeks.
I find that my upper arms can become dry and flaky and loved how this paste gently exfoliated the skin. My red, inflamed looking skin is long gone!
As I mentioned earlier, the consistency of this paste is a little grittier than I am used to. I found it’s graininess to be much more gentle for my delicate skin than a homemade baking soda exfoliant (for example).
What I’d Ditch
Rodan+Fields does not yet sell to Canada, but is looking to expand north of the border in early 2014. When that happens, I’m hoping the price drops because this particular product currently sells at $77 a tub.
It is a good sized tub, but for a beauty babe on a budget this will have you breaking the bank.
Who doesn’t love a good anti-aging cream? I use anti-aging day face creams, but always feel that a solid overnight cream is the true icing on my youthful face.
What I Dig
When I look for a new facial cream, I like the ones that go on smoothly, absorb quickly, leave me feeling moisturized, but don’t have an oily residue. The Redefine Overnight Restorative Cream gets a big thumbs up across the board.
The hyaluronic acid locks in your skins moisture, while the vitamin A, C and E renew and rejuvenate your skin.
What I’d Ditch
There’s not much I dislike about this product besides it’s price point. Costing a cool $73 it’s a little over priced. Silver lining? It comes in 30mL tub so you can toss it in your carry on without fearing the TSA will toss it out.
All in all, I must say I was pretty impressed with these products. The reviews I’ve read in magazines and online certainly match my personal opinion. If price were no option, I would definitely consider trying out an entire skin care line offered by Rodan+Fields.
Both of these products are part of an entire skin care regime so you’ve got to give them props for working so well on their own. If you want to get your pretty little hands on an entire regime then be sure to get in touch with my girl Melissa – her contact info is:
Thanks again Melissa for thinking of us and gifting me with all sorts of skinsational goodies!
