How far would you go for youthful, bright eyes? Would you botox it up? Would you get injections and fillers? An eye lift perhaps? What about rubbing a little snake venom around your eyes?
You laugh (and start to sweat) now, but there’s actually a product that infuses real life viper snake venom with peptides to reduce wrinkles and improve skin firmness.
Many people might be put off by the addition of snake venom (I admit, I was too at first), but I’ve never been one to shy away from those slithering buggers.
After all, when this little guy slithered across my path, it was my husband that ran away! *looks around to make sure hubby isn’t reading this*
Ok, so this fella doesn’t quite compare to a viper, but that’s not really the point. The point is, there’s an innovative anti-aging product called DNA Serum on the market and I recently tested it.
Allow me to divulge my experiences with it.
The 411 on DNA Serum
DNA Serum is a powerful blend of peptides that have been scientifically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around your eyes. The 3 active peptides are Syn-Ake, Argireline and Leuphasyl.
Syn-Ake is a small peptide that mimics the effects of Temple Viper venom. Temple Vipers are one of the most venomous snakes in the world and are found in only the most remote parts of the Borneo jungle. Note to self: I will not be travelling to Borneo anytime soon.
In the wild, a bite from a Temple Viper can be fatal. Their venom is a hemotoxin which attacks the red blood cells and causes clotting and organ destruction. Yowza!
Mimicked via Syn-Ake, it targets crow’s feet and other expression wrinkles around the eyes and forehead by inhibiting muscle contractions.
Argireline is a hexapeptide that imitates botox, but is way more cost effective (and without the wrinkles!). Like botox, this hexapeptide is especially effective on deep wrinkles.
Leuphasyl is used to relax muscle contractions so you see a reduced number of expression wrinkles. Together with Argireline, it works overtime to wave auf wiedersehen to wrinkles.
This product is marketed as a wrinkle-reducing eye serum, but the inclusion of eyeseryl also makes it an effective de-puffer and dark circle lightener. Eyeseryl is like a decongestant for your eyes and helps improve skin firmness and smoothness.
The added bonus is it also helps lighten dark under eye circles; something I personally appreciate since I have always had really bad under eye circles.
The goodness doesn’t stop there though. DNA Serum also contains ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid and Seaweed Extract to improve circulation, tighten skin and protect your skin’s natural elasticity.
What I liked About DNA Serum
I was able to test out DNA Serum myself (my favourite part about owning a skincare site!), here’s what I thought of it.
The serum comes in a syringe that is hard as hell to use at first. The thumb press is sticky and I needed the assistance of my hubby for the first few applications.
Because it’s so sticky, you may only get half the amount of serum as you’re supposed to, so double pump until the press becomes smoother.
The first thing I noticed after my first application was how tingly it made my skin feel.
Ok, I didn’t just notice the tingling sensation, I was freaked out by it! I thought I was having a negative reaction to it, but then I realized that’s just how it feels and ended up really digging it.
Another thing you’ll notice straight away is how tight your skin feels. Again, this is something I totally dug because it made me feel like the product was working straight away.
In the first two weeks I saw a significant decrease in the fine lines around my eyes.
It was so great that I tried it on my annoying wrinkle between my eyebrows. The results weren’t as noticeable, but that one wrinkle did seem less severe.
The one thing my husband really noticed was how my dark under eye circles were fading and my eyes were brightening. The lightening wasn’t as intense as when I used Elite Serum, but still noticeable.
I used this syringe twice daily and got about 10 weeks of use out of it – not bad for a relatively small syringe!
What I Loathed About DNA Serum
I can honestly say I didn’t find one thing to loathe about this product.
The only thing that bothered me slightly was the serum tended to make my skin feel a little sticky when I used it in the morning.
I also didn’t really like the way it sat under my makeup and was worried if my face got wet or I started to sweat (not unusual here in Thailand) that my makeup would run.
Fortunately, this didn’t happen but I also don’t wear a lot of makeup in Thailand so you could have a different experience with using it in the morning.
Towards the end of my trial with the product I started only using the solution at night, that way it had the whole night to soak in.
I found that when I rinsed my face in the morning it would wash away any lingering serum and my eyes would look nice and alert!
All in all, I found this product to be pretty good. I really liked its ability to smooth out the crow’s feet around my eyes and make my eyes look nice and awake!
As for the dark circles, it’s definitely comparable to Elite, but not as effective at lightening stubborn under eye circles.
Finally, it’s a little on the pricey side – $109.95 regular – but you do get approximately 10 weeks of use.
Besides, wouldn’t you rather spend the money on one product that will get the job done right away versus testing out various $20-30 creams? Yeah. Me too.
