DIY Gluten Free Body Butter

Winter is here and before you know it your skin may feel dry, itchy and totally parched.

It’s just awful, but as someone with super sensitive skin and a gluten-intolerance I can tell you that not just any old skin lotion will make it better.

As the seasons change, I find my body’s needs change too. Simply put, I rotate my fave skincare products depending on the time of year. Going a little lighter in the summer (because who wants to feel oily) to full, deep moisture in the winter, I give my skin what it needs.

Now, if you’re anything like me and have a gluten sensitivity, you know it’s important to only use g-free products on your skin. And guess what beauties? This DIY gluten free body butter may be just what the doctor order this winter.

Organic, Whipped DIY Gluten Free Body Butter

This gluten free body butter has an idyllic consistency; it feels cool and fresh as it melts into your body.  It really is just what the doctor ordered in terms of loving your skin. It looks so good that you may just want to eat it!


Note:  Use fair-trade ingredients, if possible

You will need:

  • 1 cup organic, raw shea butter
  • ½ cup organic, raw coconut oil (unrefined)
  • 1/3 cup pure, organic beeswax
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons organic hemp oil
  • 2 ½ teaspoons argan oil
  • 2 ½ teaspoons organic cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil
  • Optional: 10 drops of the essential oils of your choice (this is the fun part!).  Lavendar’s a goodie.

How To Prepare Your Body Butter:

Add the Shea Butter, the beeswax, and the coconut oil to a small pot.  Heat and slowly stir on a very low setting for about 15 minutes.  Be sure the setting is very low to savour the nutrients of the ingredients.

Once melted, remove from the heat.  At this point, put it all into a covered bowl and let it cool for about 15 minutes.  Then slowly add, or “fold” in the hemp, argan, and olive oils.  Allow to continue cooling, covered, for another 20 minutes.

After that, mix everything together while adding about 8-12 drops of essential oils.  You can choose lavender, lemon, mint, chamomile…the choice is yours!

Then, put the bowl in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.

Finally, take the bowl out of the refrigerator and whip, whip, and whip away!  You can use a spatula, a whisk, or a mixer.  You will see the butter come to life and how divine it will look!

This body butter can be put into a Mason jar, sealed, and adorned with lovely ribbon for a gift.  Know someone who just can’t seem to find the perfect calming cream for their skin?  Make your fabulous body butter and add rose oil!  Or chamomile!  And the lavender…it is also very soothing to the skin.

Luscious and creamy, it is made from completely edible ingredients.  With this body butter, it will require up front cost to get the freshest, gluten free makings.  But don’t fret — once you get the all-natural ingredients, the money you save will be insane because you will use this recipe again and again!

Here’s to not buying unnatural, chemically-laden, jars of body butter!
