Clean And Clear Advantage Acne Control Kit: CC’s Premier Product Under The Scope

Written by 0 comments

clean and clear advantage acne control kitI’ve already touched on some of the top home acne kits and I’m going to continue that focus today by reviewing Clean and Clear’s Advantage Acne Control Kit.

I’m going to be doing everything I can to give my thoughts on the most famous acne brand in the world and more specifically this their premier product.

I’ll briefly mention how this kit works and then touch on some of the pro’s and con’s, before offering my final opinion at the end.

So with that said let’s get this Clean And Clear Advantage review underway!

What Is It?

Okay so we know it’s a 3-step system, but what sets it aside from the other kits out there like Exposed, Proactiv or Skin ID?

Well there are two things that make this kit a little different then the others available:

  1. Most kits use a cleanser, toner and moisturizer, but this one is a cleanser, moisturizer and a spot corrector.
  2. They use a lot of benzoyl peroxide, 10% then compared to most that start out with less then 5%.

The cleanser is obviously step one in the kit and this is what uses the benzoyl peroxide at 10% concentration. BP and the other ingredients work towards removing any unwanted dead skin, dirt and bacteria from within your pores. At that level of concentration, some people with sensitive skin may find it a little much, which can potentially lead to irritation and further outbreaks later on down the track.

The Acne Control Moisturizer comes next and their promise is that it - “contains a breakthrough technology proven to dissolve oil fast, so serious acne medication can penetrate deep down to pores.” If I were to guess what that is, it would mainly be due to the 0.5% concentration of salicylic acid used in the formula.

Finally the kit includes a spot treatment again that uses salicylic acid as the primary ingredient, this time at 2% concentration. It’s claim is that it - “shows results in as little as 8 hours. It clears up pimples and helps prevent new ones from forming.”

The question however, is how effective is this method of treatment?

Why It’s HOT!

clean and clear advantage spot treatmentClean And Clear are a reputable company and traditionally they’ve always focused on using fairly strong formulas for most of their products. This is certainly the case once again with their Acne Control Kit, plugging it with the highest concentration of benzoyl peroxide allowed in over the counter products.

Although 10% concentrations can be effective for some people and I have to note this down as a positive, it can also cause negative consequences which I’ll talk about next.

I also liked the idea of having a spot treatment in your arsenal. Applying salicylic acid to deep pimples throughout the day has been shown to rapidly clear pores and stop infection.

Apart of those two things, this product does a lot of other problems.

Why It’s NOT!

Although it’s by far the best product Clean & Clear have ever come up with, it certainly does not compare to some of the others we have reviewed so far and here’s why:

  1. Starting off using 10% benzoyl peroxide usually results in immediate irritation. It’s this irritation that can cause your skin to shed more rapidly, likely leading to more frequent breakouts due to the resulting blockages in your skin.
  2. There are A LOT of chemical additives in all three treatments. If you’re like me and you have slightly sensitive skin, harmful chemicals can also cause irritation.
  3. It’s really basic and those who suffer from moderate and severe forms of acne, aren’t likely to see much of a benefit, if any at all.

As I mentioned above, Clean And Clear tend to use really powerful ingredients, which for some of us is great but for the majority it can be an absolute nightmare!

Skin Score!

I can’t hate on Clean And Clear Advantage too much as they at least took it to the next level with this Acne Control Kit, however it doesn’t look like a lot of thought went into the research and development stage.

Although eventually some of us may need to use 10% benzoyl peroxide, starting out at that level of concentration in my opinion is a BAD idea!

From what I could tell, it’s clear that those using this system haven’t seen the greatest of results, with a 3.5 star rating showing up on Amazon right now.

Still they did make a good attempt, just not good enough to make our top 5!

Overall Score: 75%
