Oh, aging. How you burn my soul.
Since that’s never going to happen I might as well get to the point; but first a quick story…
A few days ago I landed in Chaing Mai, Thailand to catch up with V and avoid a bit of that cool Canadian weather. It took me all of one day to see how healthier this Thai lifestyle is.
Coconut Oil versus paraben-rich moisturizers, organic juicing, rather than overly sugary beverages and fresh foods instead of preservative-rich, over-processed foods . These Asians sure know how to take care of themselves.
This lifestyle shakedown really got me thinking that it was time to find the best natural anti-aging products and DIY-ify them.
DIY’ing the Best Natural Anti-Aging Products
Just because you’re going natural doesn’t mean you won’t be enjoying some of the best anti-aging properties. You’d be surprised how effective natural extracts can be.
The Power of the Underwater Plant
A lot of great stuff comes from under the sea; sea salt, sea kelp, minerals, antioxidants, vitamins and so much more. These ingredients also happen to be found in many of the best natural anti-aging products.
To make our own sea-savvy skincare, gather together the following:
- 1 tablespoon of Organic Sea Kelp Powder
- 2 tablespoons of Jojoba Oil
Mix your two ingredients together until they form a slightly viscous paste. Slather all over your clean face and let it soak in for 15-20 minutes. Once your time is up, you know the drill; rinse off with lukewarm water, pat dry and moisturize.
What’s so great about sea kelp is it is full of anti-aging antioxidants that help to firm your skin. The tighter the better when it comes to younger looking skin.
That being said, it’s also important to pump your skin full of moisture and that’s where jojoba oil comes in. It’s a gentle moisturizer that will nourish dried, aging skin back to health—I personally love this one.
Essential Anti-Aging Extracts
Some of the best natural anti-aging products focus on reducing eye wrinkles, or crow’s feet. This next DIY takes it a step further and helps reduce laugh lines too. You will need:
- 1 teaspoon Matcha Green Tea Powder (this can be tough to find, so I get it here)
- 1 tablespoon Raw Honey
- 1 tablespoon Cornmeal
- 2 tablespoons Almond Oil (this one is my favourite)
- 3 Vitamin E Capsules
In a small bowl, mix together your Matcha green tea powder and cornmeal. In a separate bowl mix your liquids; honey, almond oil and vitamin E capsules. Give them a good stir, then blend with the dry ingredients and mix together.
Using upward circular motions, massage this face scrub gently over your face and neck. Pay particular attention to around your eyes and mouth. Do this for 2 minutes then rinse off.
The cornmeal gently sloughs away dead skin cells that prevent your skin from properly rejuvenating. The antioxidants and caffeine found in green tea are great for tightening skin and ironing out those fine lines and wrinkles. Almond oil and vitamin E give your skin a much needed moisture boost, while the honey locks it in.
Your skin will feel firmer and smoother, without the nasty dried out effects of so many store bought products out there.
Now get to work ladies and DIY the sh*t out of the best natural anti-aging products out there. Who knew your very own fountain of youth was in a handful of easy-to-find natural ingredients?
